    Long ago the people believed that if anybody churning took a drink, it would stop the butter coming on.
    They used also put Holy Water in the churn starting.

  2. In one of the last houses in Kilskyre parish at O'Daly's Bridge, Virginia Road, lives Miss O'Daly a very old lady. Her father was an officer in Grattons volunteers. This lady has in her possession the full uniform worn by her father, when he served the mass said at the monster meeting on Fara Hill, and also a wax candle that was used. This lady is a cousin of the present Count Plunkett.
    Around 1843, mass was celebrated. Volunteers existed in 1782.
