    V
I placed it o'er the fire once more
    I heard my father sigh
I knew his thought were turning back
to days now long gone by.
And then I swore a solemn oath
    I'd be my father's son
And if Eire ever needs my aid
    I'll hold a Finian gun.
    VI
That's years ago I've grown to be a man
    And weathered many a gale.
The last twelve months were spent inside a gloomy English jail.
I've done my part, I'll do it still
    Until the fight is won
When Ireland free shall bless the men
    Who held the finian gun
