  1. First owned by Matthew Lowther while he owned it James' army after the battle of the Boyne was marching around. Lowther heard James was coming and got the tenant farmers to cover up the castle with sods which they took from a nearby field and which is called even yet 'Sod Park'. Anyhow they covered up the Castle with sods
