- Very often gypsies and travellers come round this place and call at our house and all the other houses in the village. The names of the ones that come now are the Maughans, MacDonaghs, and Sweenys. They sell saucepans, tin cans and small wooden tables.The gypsies that came long ago were the O'Daywers, Tom Manion and John Leonard. John Leonard made his living by selling ballads and Tom Manion by playing the fiddle. The people had great welcome for them and let them sleep in barns. They asked(continues on next page)
