- At the back of our houses there is a field which is known locally as "Mary Twist". This is how it got its name. A man and a woman whose names were Nally lived there. The people nick-named the man "Twist", his wifes name was Mary the field was called "Mary Twist". It is so called at the present day.
To the north side of the school and near to it there is a hill known as "gallows hill". On making enquiries I heard there was a gallows erected there about two hundred years ago and it is since known as "gallows hill."- Collector
