There were wooden bolts on the half doors long ago. Turf and wood were used for fire. The old methods used for lighting were; splinters, bogdeal, candles, and rushes dipped in oil. The dipped candles were made locally.
The tinkers made tin lamps long ago. About fifty years ago the lamps came into existence first. Corduroy was used as wick for these tin lamps. There was a small chimney at the top of these lamps and the corduroy wick was put into these chimneys to show light. The wick was put up with a pen or a needle.- Bailitheoir
