- When the potato crop failed yellow meal stirabout was the staple food of the people. A man named MacDonnell from Dunmore used to supply the people with the meal. A man with a big family used to get more than the rest. Any man that had no family used to take a child from the neighbour's house and say that it was his own so that he would get the meal. Lord Dranmore used give soup to the people and they were called soupers.
