- Once upon a time there was a man named John Riordan going about this place whom the people called "Jack the paper." He went about gathering papers and every evening he would go into some lonely place and read them. Afterwards when he would have all read he would burn them. Some people say that this is the reason why he went about gathering. He was a rich man once but by some mistake he lost some papers and consequently lost all his money. That is the reason why he went about gathering papers hoping he might get his own. He used to come to our village about 12 years ago, and ask lodgings in certain houses. Then if they refused him he would go into a "Lios" or some lonely place. He was a very tall man, who wore a long top coat. He was very learned. He died about 10 years ago.There was another beggar named Monk Rodgers. He went about through the country seeking lodgings. This man was in college to be a priest but it is that he was [?] and left the college and went about travell(continues on next page)
