- I live in the barony of Costello. Claremorris is my home town. I live in the parish of Kilcolman. There are about four hundred families in Claremorris and about eleven hundred people. Killeen is the surname most common. There were more families of this name in the lower James Street at one time but they have emigrated to America, There is a village called Carrowkilleen on account of the number of Killeens that lived there, There is another place called Killeenfarna. It is on the outskirts. It is called Killeenfarna on account of the number of Killeens who lived there.
A lady who emigrated to America wrote the following poem.-
"I oft' feel sad and lone and cold
Here in the golden West,
When I recall the days of old
And the fond hearts laid to rest,
The Gladstone village, a crowd at 'een
