- (continued from previous page)lived in lichens, raths, dunes and hills. Numbers of people believes in fairies in ancient times. There were different kinds of fairies namely the Pookey, the Leprechaun, and the Will o' the wisp. They had power to do evil and good, so the people tried to keep on good terms with them, and when ever they spoke about them, they always called them the good people. The never cut a bushes where fairies were supposed to live.
Along by one of John Walshe's fields there is a hedge of black thorn bushes, and fairies lived there. After twelve o'clock in the night the bushes were said to be seen shaking, and the people were afraid to pass try them after that hour. There used to be a light seen going through the fields and anyone that saw it, had to follow it. There was an old man living in our village, whose name was Michael Chilibin. One night when he was returning from his visit, in a neighbor's house, he was later than usual, and he saw the light, and he kept following it. All of a sudden it vanished and he found himself in Kilamonagh.
