    in need of a pair of boots," said the beggar-man who saw a fine pair under the table.
    "There is a pair of new shoes there belonging to Páidín and will you take them to him?"
    "I will indeed," he replied.
    "I suppose he will do finely now," said the father.
    "He might only for he wants an over-coat." He said this because he saw Páidín's over-coat hanging on the wall.
    "Here is an over-coat," said the father,
    "and you can give it to him."
    "I suppose he will be alright now."
    "He will indeed but sometimes he gets hungry."
    "Well, you can take that bag of meal in the corner with you," said the father.
    "He will do now but I am hungry myself," so the beggar-man ate Páidín's dinner.
    When he was going away he said to the father. "I am alright now but I will not be able to carry them, so
