- Long ago the people used thatch with sedge, and rushes and scollops. Scollops were oiser rods pointed so that they pierced the thatch and held it in place so that the wind would not blow it off.
- In days gone by they stitched the thatch on to the houses with an iron needle. One was inside and the other outside passing the needle in and out.
