- In former times the people had remedies of their own to cure their ailments because there were no doctors in those days.
The cure they had for tooth-ache was to fill the mouth with cold water and to sit near the fire until the water would boil. They also put tobacco or cobwebs into the tooth to ease the pain. Another remedy was to put a frog into the mouth, but very few people attempted to do this.
