    straight stick. Then they were all dipped together into the tallow in the grisset, and as before they had to be dipped again and again. Usually the lower end of the candle was thicker than the top as the melted tallow ran down; so when the process was about half way through the candles were turned, and suspended from the other end. As before when the candles were thick enough they were rolled on a rolling board and hung up by the wicks to harden.
    Mould candles were made at a later period. The mould was made at the forge. It was something like a short bicycyle pump, one end
