- There is hidden treasure in a field belonging to Mr. John McNamara, Ballyhaunis. This treasure is believed to have been placed there by the Danes. Mr. John Carney, Ballyhaunis, who was a blacksmith tried to unearth it. There are steps leading down to the treasure. Mr. Carney found a pot of gold but when he tried to lift up the pot he could no do so. When he touched the pot he heard a cock crowing and clapping his wings.
