  2. Lime Burning

    Lime is burned in a lime kiln. This is the way kiln is made. First a large round hole is made in the side of a bank or in a sandpit. Then it is built round with stones. It is about six feet deep and four feet square. a hole is made in the side of the kiln which is called the pooreen. Then a large fire is put in the bottom of the kiln. Then a layer of stones is put over it and a layer of turf over the stones and so on until they lime is burned.
