- Long ago a man in Crossard had a dream or vision that a pot of gold was hidden under a great slab of stone in the old race course of Túr ah Riogh west of Ballyhaunis. In the dream he was told to bring a blacksmith named Waldron from Ballyhaunis to break the stone and to go while mass was being said in the parish church. He did all as directed. The smith struck a mighty blow but failed to break the stone. Again he struck. This time the flag cracked and from under it ran a rat of frightful aspect. He was of great size and had long strong hair, which seemed to bristle with rage and anger. The two men ran in terror and never risked another attempt.
A story is told of a pot of gold hidden in the fort in Bodeyboy. This is guarded by a white cat that sits night and day beside the treasure. Treasure hidden in extreme west end of Orler lake is guarded by an eel.- Informant
