- In olden times the people had different customs when they were getting married.
They had a time set in which they used to get married. It was from Christmas to Easter and they called it "Shrove". All the boys and girls who had no word of getting married gathered to the market square in Ballyhaunis and they used to throw salt at one another to keep them fresh. It was called salten Tuesday.
The people used to go to the Chapel on horses and the women used to sit up on the horse behind the men. When they were coming home the horses used to be racing to see who was the best runner.(continues on next page)
