- About fifty years ago nearly every town and village in Ireland had their own industries.
In every village there was a nailer, this man made nails and pig-rings. There was also a weaver in every village. The women spun big balls of thread and it was then sent to the weaver to be made into cloth.
They had a tailor, he made clothes for people at a very cheap price.
There was also a shoe maker in every village, he fixed shoes for the people and he also made shoes.
There are no trades-men in the villages now except the tailor because all those articles are made in factories- Collector
