- The feast of St. Bridget occurs on the 2nd of February. It is regarded as a very special feast by the Irish. Some years ago many old customs were practised by the people on that day.
Towards sundown the man of the house goes out and cuts a bundle of fresh green rushes. He brings them into the house and as he is going in the door he says, "Beatha do Naomh Brígid agus don líontighe seo" He places the rushes beneath the table and then some prayers are recited by the household(continues on next page)- Collector
