Before leaving the house on the wedding day a grain of salt and a quenched coal were put into the bridegrooms pocket to bring him back, and just as the couple were leaving the house a bottle or an old shoe was fired after them. If the day was fine the union would be a happy one, if raining an unhappy one. Strange as it seems it is supposed that if an educated person ties a knot on a handkerchief at a particular word in the ceremony the couple will not be blessed with a family.
