    a pig in salt in a tub and comfortable kitchen bed in the hay with straw home made mats as curtains.
    If the visit was satisfactory a bottle of poteen was produced by the bride's father and the bridegroom often carried a bottle in his pocket. There were no glasses, the poteen was poured into cups and drank by all. The bride's health being drunk by all.
    Then a feast was prepared by the bride to show her ability in cookings. This consisted of boiled turnips and bacon or corned beef and a pot of potatoes. Each guest was given a dish of turnip
