- In olden times toys were made of little things. Children put two sticks in a potato for a doll. Then they used to make a dress to cover the potato and the sticks. Girls make string flower together, and they make them into wreeds. Boys make tops from empty spools. They pared it at one end. Boys make guns from trees. A branch is cut. Then a hole is cut in the middle of it. They put a spring from a clock into it and the gun was made.
Boys also make cradle- birds to catch wild birds. They get a flag and three rods. One rod is put at the bottom for the bird to stand on and and another between the two. Children make carts also from two boards about six inches and two lids of boxes are nailed on to each side. Children also amuse themselves by getting a "tráithnín" and whistling into it. By making housings at the side of the wall and putting dicings into it children amuse(continues on next page)- Collector
