- Many people in Glenree believe in fairies.
When a man is about to build a house he is careful lest he might build it on land belonging to the good people.
To find this out he places sods of turf along the selected site in the evening. If the sods are gone in the morning, the fairies have taken them and he must choose another site.
Last year a man in Iarball did this.
Old thorns are left standing from generation to generation and certain parts of the land are never cultivated because they belong to the fairies.
On November Eve a fire is left on the hearth and the door is left open so that the fairies may come in and warm themselves.
