- Coolcarney is another name by which the parish of Kilgarvin was known.
Coolcarney was the last remnant of the estates of the great O'Dowds of North Mayo.
The last of the O'Dowds, Tadg by name, lived near the village of Bonniconlon (Muine Connelláin) in a place called by the older people Log an Adhmaid.
Tadg was very poor and was forced to sell the lands of Coolcarney.
They were bought by a man called Downing, the son of an Indian Civil servant.
This Downing was born in Indian.
This Downing was forced to leave during the land agitation and went to live in the West Indies.(continues on next page)- Collector
