    Hughes got his gun ready to fire but it wouldn't. At last he gave him self up as lost. He expected to meet with the same fate as his comrades until at length he thought of Saint Cummins clay. He had some of it tied up inside his coat and it put it on the top of the spear and killed the turkey cock. The blessed clay saved his life.
    It was a man of the name of Maughan who used to dig up this clay. They don't dig it now because the Protestants were buried too near it and it was thought the two clays were mixing.
