A Story
“Once upon a time a widow woman lived near Knockboha.”
Once upon a time a widow woman lived near Knockboha. One day a beggar man went into her house and asked for food. She gave him an oatmeal cake and milk. While he was taking his meal he looked out the window and saw a dog lying beside a cock of hay in the garden. Then he asked the woman where all the people of the village were. She said that they were in the bog. After a while he went out and shot the dog. When he came in she asked him why he shot the dog and he said that all the young men were hiding there from the English soldiers. That if the soldiers came along that they would know the dog was guarding something and they would search the place and find the men.- Collector
