    He came to Mayo and arrived in Moyne.
    He asked to be directed to the castle in the Down. An old man answered and said he believed all the McDonnell's were dead. The boy made himself known and the murderers got excited. The old man took a sword off the wall and said "your grandfather and father were good men and those gaps were made in this sword blade by battering their heads."
    The boy continued on his journey.
    He came to his own home and got signal gun. He scoured it and fired a shot. when it was heard his clan recognised it and gathered to him.
    When the party from Moyne followed him he was making for Erris. They followed him.
    Some of his relatives were at Glenamoy. He fired the signal gun and an old blind relative heard it and came. There were stepping stones in river and the old blind man guarded
