- (continued from previous page)In the evening when we are bringing them home, we call them "Breggy" or "Nancy". When they come in to their house each of them will go into their own place, and will stoop their heads for to put the chain around their necks. Them they will be fed with straw or hay, and a mash of potatoes, and meal on it.
When the cow is to calve we know it on them. They will run home themselves but some of them calve out. When she calves the calf is taken away from her.
Then the calf is put into a nice warm shed, for himself. Then a saucepan is put on his head for fear he would suck up any of the bedding. Its left on him for a fortnight, and then its taken off, because they are supposed to be chewing their cuds by then. When they are able to stand up, and go about, they get about a pint of the cow's milk. The remainder is strained, and beestings made of it(continues on next page)
