- (continued from previous page)potatoes, and they used to divide with their neighbours if they had none. More houses had a little Indian Meal and they used to divide it, because in those days the people were very generous.
During this time they used to eat once a day, or once a week and that kept them alive. More people used to close the door and starve, and the first one that would die would be buried out-side the house, with about one foot of clay over them, because the people were not able to carry them to a grave-yard. That[s the way some families died one by one and each one side by side.
After the famine the people got them in the fields any by the road side with grass in their mouths. Some people took very bad diseases after the famine such as the Cholera, flue and the fever and thousands died.(continues on next page)- Collector
