- A Noted ManTom Mulloy, who lived in the "half-way house", midway between Ballina and Killala, was a noted and clever man.Once he made a chair out of bog oak and presented it to Queen Victoria who was the queen of England. The chair, when it was brought over to England, could not be opened out. Tom, himself went over and opened it. He got a hand-some present from the Queen. He made other chairs also. There are some of them in some houses in Ballina yet. He also presented a chair to Mr. Knox of Rappa Castle. He once got a big stone, weighing two tons. He set to work to carve the stone. He made a beautiful statue of his father out of it. It is still to be seen in Crosspatrick graveyard, about one mile south of Killala, standing over his father's grave. He did these works although he never learned any trade.
