There was a man once who lived in Culleens. His name was Michael Loftus. One night he was out cardplaying in a neighbour's house. It was very late when he was returning home. He was frightened by a ghost who came before him on the road. He would have been killed but he took out his rosary beads and began to pray. The ghost then disappeared. Michael vowed he would never play cards in a public house for drink from from that onwards.
