- Straw-boys are a company of young men who join together and go to a house in which there is a newly wed couple. Sometimes girls act as straw-boys.
They dress up in ragged clothes and they wear big tall hats made of straw. That is why they are called straw-boys. When they go to a house they generally do not want to be known especially if they are not let in to the house they go to.
