  1. A Story (continued)

There was once a man coming from Ballina drunk.

    (continued from previous page)
wild appearance of the fairy man frightened the man that was coming from town and he begged time till twelve o clock the next day. The ghost granted the time. The man slept none during that night and early next morning he asked six men to witness the fight and they brought six guns with them and each of the men carried a two shilling piece with him thinking with the cross on the coin that it would kill the ghost. When the time arrived for the fight and they were within a quarter of a mile of the place selected the man that was going to fight the ghost asked his friends if they seen anything coming towards them and they answered no. When they went a bit further the man asked the same question again and the answer was no. In a couple of moments afterwards the men got a great surprise for they seen the man thrown into the air three times and the poor man was seen no more.
