- (continued from previous page)When we have no milk we fill the churn with water so that it wont crack. If a person comes to our house when we are churning he churns for awhile because if he didn't churn for awhile it is said he is bringing the butter with him. It takes about half an hour to churn in summer but it takes three quarters of an hour to churn in Winter. We paint the churn every summer to keep it in good order. A drink of buttermilk is very nice after it is newly churned.
Before we go churning we wash the churn with boiling water to clean it.- Collector
