    About 60 years ago the people of this district wanted a reduction in their rent, but the landlord, who was Vaughan Jaxson, refused them.

    suggested to pay it, but my father disagreed with her, and said he would not.
    They both went to Mr. Marshun, who was a solicitor in Ballina. They told him about the "writ" which they had received. He advised them to pay 5 pounds, and if the landlord refused it to say that he could not afford any more.
    My father offered him the money, but he refused it, and said, "I can't leave blame on you but on your adviser, and you must know that my arm is today as strong as an oak tree. When I was on the "verge" of the drain you tried to push me in."
