    usually. Each pupil had a stone which he used as a seat. A man named "Burns" taught in this hedge school. He was given a penny per week or one schilling her quarter from each pupil.
    He was invited to the houses of his pupils in turn. Burns was very fond of tobacco. It was very scarce in those days, but still everyhold tried to get some for him. If he didn't get it he was very cross on the next day. He taught in Irish and was a very good teacher.
