Song (ar lean)
“It gives me much sorrow this tale to relate, About the disaster that happened so late, The rebels around me have got the wind up, And with the last year or so I haven't the life of a pup.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)[-]- Potatoes are grown on my farm at home. About two acres of them are planted every year.
The farmer or his workman prepares the ground for the crop. When potatoes are planted in ridges the ground is manured before it is ploughed. Potatoes are nearly all sown in drills in Araglen. This is the way the drills are made. First of all the ground is ploughed and then it is harrowed and the drills are made with a plough.
The potatoes are risen[?] to twice and sprayed three times during the Summer months. They are dug in the end of the month of September and early in October. The farmer has many boys picking them when he is digging them. The potatoes are stored in pits. The names of the potatoes planted locally are Aran banners, Champions, Epicures(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
