A Local Song
“Once that I courted a soldier, And he was the first won my heart”
I
Once that I courted a soldier,
And he was the first won my heart.
We got married anonced to our parents
And we vowed that we never would part.
But now all his vows they are broken.
Alas I can see him no more.
He is gone and he left me alone.
Oh alone at the mall of Lismore.II
In Dublin his regiment was called in.
To go my young soldier should tramp.
And for to dispute with the sargent.
My bonny young soldier was wronged.
He was tied up to a hard pole.
With lashes his skin it was tore.
And that was the cause of he leaving me.
