    Long ago in the parish of Glendine there lived a man named Keily.

    Long ago in the parish of Glendine there lived a man named Keily. He had a wonderful little mare. There also lived at the time in Garryduff a man named Guarde. He also had a very lively horse. One challenged the other and the race was to take place in the townland of Castlemyles, Youghal. The race was to start in the bogs at Redforge and finish at Goulds, a house then near Lombards Cross (Newtown Cross). The race started but it was not long when Mr Guardes horse had taken the wrong course by going at the wrong side of a pole. When he noticed his mistake he had to turn back and then try to make up for lost time. It is recorded that, when he came to the roadway known as Castlemyles Boreen, he jumped both fences and the Boreen and landed in the next field. Soon he [picked?] up the other horse and beat him easily. It is also reported that the same horse jumped an iron gate which had a spear of iron up over the centre of it. People still show the gate and where the spear of iron was broken off by order
