    Knockanafrin.
Even in our own day we may witness the celebration of Mass in the open air; for many will remember the vast crowds that congregated on the summit of Brandon Hill in Kerry on the 28th June 1869 to honour the memory of Saint Brendan. The spots consecrated by the celebration of the sacred mysteries are at this day well known and greatly revered by the people; and many of them bear names formed from the word Aifrionn, (Affrin) the Mass, that will indentify them to all future times.
In Waterford there is Knockanaffrin, one of the highest hills of the Comeragh range, which name is made Knocknafreen near Ardmore in the same country.

    Dungarvan
Allowing for the difficulty of representing Irish words by English letters it will be found that, on the whole, the ancient pronunciation is fairly preserved. The name Dungarvan preserves almost exactly the name of the Irish Dun-Garbhain meaning Garvan's fortress.
