    But some how or other the police got information about it .By this time the police also knew that Father Power was in sympathy with the Land Leaguers and used to attend all their meetings, so it was decided upon by the sergeant to watch Father Power’s movements on this Sunday afternoon and that by following his unawaries he would surely lead them to the place where the meeting was to be held, and for that purpose had all the men armed and ready in the barracks by the time the last Mass was over, to see what direction Father Power would take after leaving the chapel after his breakfast. This was an easy matter as the old barracks was almost opposite the gate which was the only entrance to the chapel. The new cemetery did not exist at the time and there was no bridge across the river then, so that the chapel was surrounded by water on two sides and by a unbroken range of high walled houses on another, the only way in or out being through the gate, which is only a few yards from where the old barracks stood. In due course the priests horse was brought to the chapel gate all ready where the priest’s boy kept him walking up and down between the chapel gate and the bridge waiting until the
