  2. In olden times the people did not wear boots or shoes until they were practically 18 years of age, when they were able to wear a pair for themselves. Owing to circumstances their parents were not rich enough to buy them a pair. Clogs were made locally and worn by the people, but as years passed onward the clogs were out of date. Years ago there were great shoe-makers in the district but they died and their families did not continue the trade, therefore the trade in out district almost died out.
