  2. Cures

    The most harmful weeds to the farm are (1) Pop pies, they spread through potatoes, wheat, oats etc. (2) Dandelions are just like the poppies for they spread through all crops. (3) Another weed commonly called "scutch" is very harmful for if it gets into the ground it cannot be taken out. It spreads round everywhere and even though it is taken out time and time again it will reappear.
    Parsley grown on good soil, was used in former days for the kidneys. The parsley was boiled in milk and the patient drank this. Celery boiled well was used to cure rheumatism. Children who had "the thrush" were brought to an old woman who lived in old Kilmainham. She put holy water down their throat and prayed over them; she was a very holy woman. that was nearly 60 years ago.
    To cure "Whooping Cough" children were put under the donkey three times.
    Poultices made of half boiled porridge were used for drawing sores. Fifty six years ago Mother used this method of drawing sores. This was used especially
