- Every year, on the tuesday before Ash Wednesday, pancakes are made. This is an old Irish custom, Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, and Lent is a time of fast and prayer, and the old words come true, "The fast before the Feast". The fast of Lent lasts until noon on Holy Saturday, and the feast is on Easter Sunday. The pancakes for Shrove Tuesday are made with flour, eggs, sugar, new milk, margarine, baking powder and the juice of a lemon. The flour and the baking powder and the margarine are all mixed together in a dish, then the eggs are beaten up, in a dish, and the milk is poured in, then the (dish) bowl is emptied into the dish and all are(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
