- Many old people tell stories of people long ago who saw the leprachaun.
My grand-father told me a story, that his father told him, he knew a man who was coming home one dark night from playing cards, about twelve o'clock.
He dwelt nigh a wood, and soon he heard a tapping, and he went over to where he heard it.
It was there he saw a small man dressed in scarlet, with a freckled face, sitting under a fairy-cap, making a pair of shoes for a fairy.
Then he knew it was a leprachaun.
The man caught the fairy in his arms, and said,
"Where shall I find the crock of gold, as I am very poor."
The leprachaun told the man to follow him, then he said,
"Now dig down a dept of four feet into the earth with your hands, till you come to the crock of gold."
The man's hands were almost bleeding.
But to his great surprise, he came upon it.
The leprechaun said,
"Now open it, and see what you will find inside of this little crock."
The man opened it, and it was full up to the top; with golden soverigns, then he said to him,(continues on next page)- Collector
