38 The Maiden's Rock
The maiden's rock is situated off Dalkey. It got its name because seven girls were drowned beside this rock. One day seven girls were out in a yacht. Suddenly the steering went wrong and the yacht sailed towards the rock. It ran up on the rock and a large hole was torn in the bottom of the yacht. Then it began to sink and the girls fired rockets. The men at the harbour heard them and went out in a boat but when they got there the boat had gone under and the girls drowned. This rock is also called Corrig Rock.
