- Loughill National School is now situated in the townland of Parkeen but was originally situated in Loughill townland from which it gets its name. In olden times when the school was in Loughill district, Dr. Callaghan Parish priest of Bundoran and the local land loard disagreed about the management of the school. At that time there was a little thatched dwelling in Parkeen district which was parochial property so Dr. Callaghan took the pupils and teacher to it and this started the present Loughill School. The landlord started another school in “Fassaua” to which protestant pupils went the landlord was Lord Eily. No trace of the former school in Loughill remains. It was situated in the land which now belongs to Michael McGowan. The present Loughill School started in 1868. About fifty years ago it was slated and ceiled about thirty years ago.
