    especially in Winter as they are cheaper than boots.
    Long ago people used to wear boots which were laced at the side by means of buttons. These were called button boots. They also wore boots called elastic sides which were kept on the feet by means of elastic. When being put on the foot the elastic was extended to allow the foot to get in and then the elastic was allowed to relax over the foot.
    In olden times there was a Tannery in Ballyshannon but now all that remains of it is an old ruin.
