- (continued from previous page)The games I play are marbles and bird-nesting in Spring, hurling and football in Summer, nut-gathering and blackberry-picking and chestnuts in Autumn, snowballing, sliding, sleighing and bird-trapping in Winter.Seven is the limited number of players in the game of “marbles.” A ring is drawn on the ground and a straight line, which is called “Pink” is drawn about two yards away. Every player puts a marble in the ring and whoever calls Sunday first can pitch his crockery or “glassy” first. The person who calls Monday gets second shot, etc. The object of the players in to knock the marbles out of the ring. The player who knocks out a marble has permission to get another “shot.” If a player knocks out two marbles in succession he has to go back to “Pink” and gets another “shot.” Should a player’s glossy touch that of another the latter has to give the former a marble and go back to “Pink” and await his turn. The former then has permission to get another “shot.” When a players “glassy” stops inside the ring it is said to be “fat” and that player has to put a marble in the ring and go back to “Pink” and await his turn.
